Albums
Toto’s discography includes 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The band has received multiple Grammy Awards.
Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs’ 1975 album Silk Degrees. The group’s collaboration led to formation of Toto in the year 1976.
Turn Back, Toto’s third studio album, was criticized by critics due to the absence of hit singles. In 1985 the group’s singer Fergie Fredericksen resigned, and the band held auditions to find a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their album Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by going through several demos and tapes from the past to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans and the band went on a tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
While touring for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun The drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour and an interview with Toto.

Toto is an American rock band that was formed in 1977 in Van Nuys, Greater Los Angeles. The group of six includes guitarist and vocalist Steve Lukather, bassist David Paich, keyboardist/vocalist Steve Porcaro, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarist/vocalist Joseph Williams. The group’s eclectic blend of influences has made them one of the most listened-to groups ever. The music of the band has been featured in over 200 TV and movie shows, including The Godfather and The Prince of Egypt.
In 1983 the band released Toto IV, which earned the band worldwide acclaim. The band began a world-wide tour to support the album following its success. During the tour Bobby Kimball, the lead vocalist, was arrested for drug charges. At the end of the tour the band decided to let him go and hired guitarist/singer Joseph Williams to take his place. Drummer David Hungate also left the band after the tour. He was replaced by bassist Leland Sklar.
The TOTO Museum is a futuristic structure with a variety of exhibition rooms dedicated to presenting the story of the company and its most innovative products. Toto has released a variety of music videos. The group has also released numerous compilation videos and DVDs. The most popular video of the group is “Africa”, which has more than one billion views on YouTube. The video is set in a library, with the band performing on top of a stack of African books.
The track “Africa” is from the album Toto IV. The song was written by members of the band and produced David Paich. It was a huge hit in Europe as well as other countries. The success of the single helped Toto to regain their popularity, after their previous album Turn Back failed to chart in America.
Following the release of the album, Toto went on a world tour. The group featured touring musicians Lenny Castro and Shannon Forrest. Warren Ham, Shem von Schröeck and Shem von Schroeck were also part of the group. Steve Lukather also released his second solo record, Luke.
In 1985, Fergie Frederiksen, Toto’s drummer, quit the group due to personal reasons. Toto held an audition to find a replacement for Frederiksen.

Toto is famous for their popular song “Africa” The group recently reunited to promote their new album, All In. The album was released on November 6, 2018 and included three brand new tracks from the upcoming 40 Trips Around the Sun, as well as recorded versions of four older tracks featuring Jeff Porcaro on drums and either Mike or Steve Porcaro on bass. The album also featured the cover of Weezer’s track “Hash Pipe” that the band decided to add after hearing a version on the radio.
